Kim and Keith Howe have been homeschooling since the summer of 2005. Kim writes the curriculum — science, social studies, language arts, math, and reading — and the family sells it from College Station. Families who want to hold books before they buy meet up at The Homeschool Store in Houston.
Scales Tails and Crawlers
They bring the animals to you
Eden, 11, and Grayson, 14, homeschool, and they bring reptiles to birthday parties, STEM nights, office parties, vacation Bible school, youth group nights, and homeschool co-ops. Guests look, ask questions, and see the animals up close. Once a month they visit KBTX for Crawly Critter Corner. Weekly jobs around town — pet sitting, scooping yards, and cleaning barns — paid for the whole business.

Purple Turtle Art Studio

LeAnn Hale has run Purple Turtle on South Bryan Avenue since 2000. Families come for homeschool art classes, after-school classes, birthday parties, and sessions for adults.

Gogh Gogh Coffee Company
A coffee shop on Highway 6, since 2016
They have homeschooled for twenty years. Two of their kids have gone to Texas A&M, and three are still learning at home. They roast and pour on the Highway 6 frontage road in College Station, and they are glad to support families who homeschool.

Carter’s Burger and TX Burger
Two burger shops, since 1990
Glenn White’s family has run Carter’s Burger on South Texas Avenue since 1990, and TX Burger on Wellborn Road since 2017. The shops serve burgers, sandwiches, baskets, and Blue Bell ice cream. Glenn’s daughter was homeschooled and ran the restaurants for 14 years. Landon runs them now. Glenn still owns them.

A Saturday booth at the farmers market, 8 a.m. to noon
Candy Lunsford bakes mug-cake mixes, bread, kolaches, and whatever else comes out of the oven that week. Her Facebook page has the current week.

Lone Star Kitchen
Cookies and treats at a farm shop in Caldwell
A homeschooled 12-year-old bakes small-batch cookies, little cakes, and freeze-dried treats, and sells them at Boniol Farm & Ranch. The current booth hours are on the Facebook page.

Flip Flop Spanish
Lessons online; the family is now in far West Texas
Suzanne Gose taught Spanish, leadership, and public speaking to homeschool students in Bryan for more than twenty years, most recently at the Community Homeschool Center she founded. Flip Flop Spanish grew out of those classes. The lessons are still sold online, and the center continues under its board.
