The Texas A&M Regional Center of Excellence in Cancer invites you to enjoy a TREC Seminar with Sharon A. Savage, MD, on Thursday, October 15, at 11:30 AM. Dr. Savage’s presentation, “ Telomere Biology in Human Disease ”, will be held in Rudder Tower, Room #701. Sharon A. Savage, M.D., is the Director of the Clinical Genetics Branch and Clinical Director of the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Her internationally recognized research program combines clinical, genetic, and epidemiologic studies to advance understanding of cancer etiology and improve the lives of individuals with complex cancer-prone disorders. Her work in inherited bone marrow failure syndromes has discovered numerous new genetic etiologies, advanced understanding of telomere biology, and provided unprecedented detailed clinical phenotype studies. Dr. Savage also created the NCI’s largest study of Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) resulting in quantification of cancer risk and genotype-phenotype correlations, and a robust cancer-screening regimen. Known for her emphasis on international scientific collaboration, she co-established the LFS Exploration research consortium and the Clinical Care Consortium of Telomere-Associated Ailments (CCCTAA) and works closely with basic scientists to connect disease mechanisms with clinical manifestations.
